The future of client devices is bright. Jeff Belk’s article on GigaOM, “The Future beyond the Cloud Is in Our Hands,” discusses how the power of devices can help address the conflict between rich content and limited bandwidth. With the growth of cloud computing services, it’s important to look at the evolution of mobile devices and networks—and how powerful and capable devices will become in the future. The “cloud is all” ecosystem view in relation to mobile devices doesn’t take into account the rapid progression of these device capabilities. And while the realities and costs of the cloud in relation to wireless services and devices may be a challenge, there is an opportunity to move ahead. By aligning the significant power of devices with the massive processing power and storage of tomorrow, we can shape a future that goes beyond the cloud.
